In my unprofessional opinion I believe the inspiration for weird and bizarre movies originate from dreams. My dreams can be insanely crazy and last night was no exception. I can’t help but wonder if Jesus dreamed. God’s Word tells us Jesus is like us in every respect—human body, heart, mind and will—except for sin. And if Jesus did dream, I wonder if He experienced any as crazy as mine.
As bizarre as my dreams may seem, there are numerous Bible references of individuals having dreams or visions (waking dreams) that top the scale; look no further than the book of Revelations. It paints a vivid picture of prophetic events about beasts, an acceleration of world disasters, the extinction of Christianity and more.
Through history God has communicated to mankind through dreams and visions.
In both the Old and New Testament, God used dreams and visions as warnings and a means of communicating with His people. The messengers and interpreters were hand- selected by God (Jacob, Isaiah, Nebuchadnezzar, and Daniel) and intended to fulfill a specific purpose in God’s plan.
Today God speaks to us through His Word; the Bible.
This is not to say that God doesn’t sometimes communicate to us in other ways. However, I am certain it is not through tarot cards, crystal balls or mediums. Our society is quick to embrace those who claim to forecast the future, interpret dreams or communicate with spirits.
“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son (God’s Word made flesh), whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.” (Hebrews 1: 1-2 NIV)
Only God knows the future.
I have no desire in knowing my future apart from my eternal redemption in Christ. God controls my future. I trust Him completely to lead me in the path of righteousness. And should I stray, I trust Him to tether me to His Word and realign my life to the path He has chosen for me.
Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds.” (Jeremiah 14:14)
Learn to rest in the Lord.
As Christians our connection to the spiritual realm comes through earnest and humble prayers and the reading of God’s Word. It’s not quite as glamorous as those who claim to forecast the future with a crystal ball, séances or astrology based tarot cards.
Our walk with God is in quiet confidence. I encourage you to retreat from individuals wanting to apply a spiritual meaning to every dream, deed, word or direction you experience in life.
Last night’s dream was not a God inspired warning or prophecy requiring a self-proclaimed dream-interpreter or opinion of some reality show psychic. It was just a crazy dream about family confrontations, kidnapped grandkids, missing car keys and a fast yellow car; a story created of my own mind with no objective reality.
