The loneliness within my soul erupts in silence. Am I forgotten by God? The silence is deafening and I am left with a lingering thought that God’s mercy and grace might not apply to me. There is no calm for the storm of my life, my prayers go unanswered, a river of tears has become my nighttime companion and those I love most are too busy to notice my aloneness.

I cry out for the Word of God to speak to me, to instill a profound knowledge that He is with me in this place. Silence; yes, crickets. I cry out for God’s light to pierce the darkness that surrounds my thoughts and for the dawn of a new day to raise a banner of victory. Again, crickets.

I have come to believe that God either gives me what I desire or the grace to live without it by giving me something better. Either way, all things work together for good to those who are called according to His purpose.

“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” Romans 8:28

In the midst of my fiercest storms, dashed hopes and difficult moments and life’s raging battles I trust Him. Yet I have learned through experience He doesn’t always deliver relief. It is possible I may remain painfully lonely in my circumstances and to experience the love of God may only come through encouraging and supporting other people.

So, tonight as I lay my head on a pillow stained with the tears of circumstances that I am powerless to change without divine intervention, I will cling to the Words written in Psalms 145:

• The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. (Verse 15)
• The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. (Verse 18)
• The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. (Verse 13)

I will remind myself that my salvation is not based on feelings but on God’s promise that He will never leave or abandon me.

 “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

TODAY’S PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, we all feel forgotten by you or others at times in our life. I’m sure there were days that King David felt forgotten by you. Remind us we are not alone and help us stand against doubt. When life leaves us broken may we continue to offer you praise and understand that you have not forgotten us and have a divine purpose planned; your timing is not ours.
