Life Interrupted

Life has its own ebb and tide and we have little control over the direction it takes at any given moment. We may experience an abundance of joy that is quickly followed by overwhelming sadness and grief. In the blink of an eye we are on the summit only to be plummeted into the crashing waves of the sea.

As much as we desire and seek to navigate our life, we are ultimately powerless to God’s ordained challenges and interruptions or those unlikely circumstances based on our own choices. Life interruptions can be a hard pill to swallow because they almost always present us with an unexpected obstacle course.interrupted

This past week has given foundation to this truth. Everywhere I turn, someone’s life is being interrupted. For some it has been health issues that could prove terminal, for others the pending fear of lost income or news that a loved one has passed on. All are seemingly unexpected events, but not when viewed through the eyes of God.

What does God see?

He sees purpose. There is purpose in everything we experience in life, both good and bad, but it is where we place our future hope that converts those life interrupted moments into something God ordained.

The lost job, failed marriage, death of loved one, financial issues, struggles with addiction, health & aging concerns… the list goes on and on. Not one of us is exempt from life’s interruptions but we have control over how we handle them.

When viewed through God’s eyes there is hope, resurrection of soul, salvation, joy and a whole bunch of other hallelujahs in the mix. Forever faithful, God is first on the scene to designate ways of escape when we need to run or take cover.

Our Job

“…I have learned to be content whatever the circumstance.”
Philippians 4:11

You’ve heard the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Well, sometimes you need to add sugar. God’s Word is my sugar when the hiccups of life turn sour and interrupt the places I need to be, people I need to help and things God wants me to do.

Be content, my friend, with whatever life interruption you are dealing with at this moment. God is faithful; rest in Him and know there is purpose in the outcome of the disruptive moment you are experiencing.

Today’s Prayer

God, my life is nothing like I imagined it would be. It is chaotic, in pieces and definitely out of order. I need you to bring all this disorder into something purposeful. Help me to see purpose in my life’s interrupted moments. You are a good God and I am loved by you. For that, I am thankful. Not sure how I would get through life’s interruptions without you.

AMEN
