Rise Above the Rubble

“Rock bottom is the best foundation to build on. It is while working through our mistakes, bad choices and life circumstances that we are able to establish a base that is secure and stable and allows us to plant our feet on solid ground and grow into the person God intended us to be.”

Have you ever hit rock bottom? I can tell you that I have and it was in that bedrock of failures, defeat and fractured, prodigal moments that I had no choice but to start over. If you’ve never been there, count yourself fortunate because all the life circumstances that brought you to that place can bury you in an avalanche of debris that seeks to extinguish any breath of hope.

Know this:

You don’t have to allow defeat and rubble to be the ground on which you stand! Dig through the wreckage until you find a firm footing on which to rebuild and the Word of God is the best framework for a new foundation to a broken life.

Sometimes our rock bottom is caused by our own choices, but I believe there are times they are God appointed. Really, you say? My answer is an emphatic YES! Just read the story of Job.

Face it, when our foundation crumbles we welcome the opportunity to grow in our faith. Those rock bottom moments cause us to burrow our anchors into soil established in earnest prayer, studying scripture and a desire to seek out a true ‘come to Jesus’ relationship.

What’s your rubble?

I grew up a preacher’s kid and for year’s coasted through life on the shirt tails of my parents’ convictions of faith and then… life happened. When my hopes, dreams and aspirations were dashed I found myself sitting atop a rock pile.

Your rubble scenario may be different than mine. Perhaps you never had a Christ-centered upbringing, maybe you were a victim of abuse, poverty, divorce or other circumstances out of your control. The truth is, however and by whatever means you arrived in that rubble pile doesn’t matter. It is how you rebuild on it to become the person that no one, not even yourself, dreamed you could be that matters.

I challenge you to rise up from the debris in your life. Allow hope to thrive in you with the knowledge that you have JESUS on your side. He desires to rebuild your brokenness into what He has eternally purposed for your life. WOW! If that doesn’t cause you to rise up from you rubble, I don’t know what will.

“…If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:31

TODAY’S PRAYER:

Father God, encourage me to rise above the rubble in my life. Keep me from being embittered and blaming you and others for the circumstances I endure.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jer. 29:11 NLT

Let that scripture be the foundation on which I rebuild when my hopes are dashed and my dreams shattered. Align and conform my thoughts to God’s Word and to Your eternal purpose for my life.

AMEN
